The Mid-America Orthopaedic
Association has over 1,400 members. Our goal is to interest all qualified orthopedists in
our area.
Active Membership
Qualifications
Active membership
shall be open to orthopedic surgeons who meet all of the following criteria. The applicant
must:
Be a physician with full and
unrestricted license to practice in one of the states within the geographic limits of the
Association (refer to home page for a list of the states);
be certified by the American Board
of Orthopaedic Surgery or the Canadian Royal College of Surgeons;
be actively and exclusively engaged
in practice, teaching, or research in orthopedic surgery;
demonstrate continued adherence to
the Principles of Medical Ethics as published by the American Medical Association;
maintain high professional, moral,
and ethical conduct;
comply with the dues (currently set
at $200/year), fees, and assessment requirements established from time to time by the
Association;
have commenced
practice in a specific
locality within the geographic limits of the Association.
Candidate Membership
Qualifications
Candidate
membership is open to individuals in their orthopedic residency training program,
orthopedic post-graduate fellowship, or to those who have completed their training, but
have not yet become certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. A candidate
member may maintain this membership for four years after the individuals training is
completed or when the individual becomes a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons, whichever comes first. At that time, the individual may submit an application
for active membership, but must meet all current criteria to be accepted.
Candidate members who are residents
or fellows in training are not required to pay dues, and are ineligible to vote or hold
office, but may be appointed to committees.
Fees for attendance at annual meetings will be limited to those charged residents.
Candidate members who have completed
their training will be expected to pay regular dues. All are ineligible to vote, hold
office, or sponsor candidates for membership, but may be appointed to committees. Fees for
attendance at annual meetings will be limited to those charged members.
Affiliate
Membership Qualifications
- Affiliate
membership shall be open to individuals whose occupations are in fields
associated with, or related to, orthopedic surgery or the objectives,
goals, or purposes of this Corporation.
- Affiliate membership
may be conferred upon an individual by a three-fourths (3/4) vote of the
Board of Directors.
- Affiliate members may
attend and participate in meetings and are required to pay such
application fee, membership dues, registration fees, and assessments as
are prescribed from time to time by the Board of Directors.
- Affiliate members may
not hold office or vote, but may serve on committees.
